How does the #kidney filter 1500 liters of blood every day without loosing proteins?
Our #cryoET data of kidney tissue by #waffleMethod show that the slit diaphragm, which links #podocytes in the #glomeruli, looks like a fishnet!

Check out our opinion piece "Understanding the cell: Future views of structural biology" now out in Cell. The future of structural and cellular biology is digital. Many thanks to @IHanelt @Beck_Laboratory and @mixmue for the great fun and discussions writing it

How can genetic perturbation of a central scaffolding component of the #nuclearpore result in a tissue specific defect? Work by @Reiya_Tan1guch1 and others in collaboration with @DoyeValerie makes this more conceivable (@MPIbp @IJMonod):

Intriguing perspective in @CellCellPress on the future of structural #cellbiology by our faculty members @Beck_Laboratory, @CovinoLab, @IHanelt and @mixmue, elaborating on novel technologies and the role of #AI towards understanding cellular functions!
