The Friedrich Merz Foundation Guest Professorship was established in December 1985 by Dr. Jochen Hückmann, then CEO of Merz and grandson of company founder Friedrich Merz, on the occasion of the latter’s 100th birthday.
Friedrich Merz was one of the first members of the Senckenberg Society and was deeply connected to the Goethe University Frankfurt, where he actively promoted scientific research. The goal of the Guest Professorship is to invite a distinguished scientist in the fields of pharmacy or human medicine to Frankfurt each year.
First awarded in 1987, the Guest Professorship has, with only two exceptions, been conferred annually. The accompanying scientific symposium, which spans topics from basic to translational and clinical research, offers researchers from academia and industry an exceptional platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration.
This year’s curator and host on behalf of Goethe University is Professor Dr. Stefan Knapp, Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry. Professor Knapp is an internationally recognized expert in pharmaceutical research. His laboratory focuses on understanding the structural mechanisms that regulate cellular signaling and on the development and rational design of selective inhibitors, known as chemical probes.
✨ All are warmly welcome to attend!
