The Cluster of Excellence SCALE aims to uncover the fundamental principles of cellular life by investigating how molecular interactions give rise to complex cell functions. Bringing together expertise from biochemistry, molecular biology, physics, chemistry, neurobiology, bioinformatics, and mathematics, SCALE develops cutting-edge experimental and computational tools to map and simulate the inner architecture of cells.
By integrating these disciplines, the cluster advances our understanding of key biological processes and diseases—including bacterial resistance, inflammation, neurodegeneration, and immune responses—while training the next generation of scientists in digital biology.
